DESCRIPTION: |
nGame Limited was founded in August 1997, following some ten years' research by the founders, John Brimacombe (CEO), Dave Lloyd (CTO) and Matt Kelland (Head of Content). All three are Cambridge University graduates with a successful commercial and technical background. The company's core aim is to provide innovative multi-player gaming experiences on a wide variety of new platforms. By 1997, with the global adoption of the Internet, the emergence of digital TV in the UK and mainland Europe, and the first glimmerings of wireless and mobile platforms, the founders saw that it would be technically possible to achieve some of their long-term ideas and to market them commercially. Originally funded by a small group of private investors, nGame spent the first two years developing its core technology and exploring new platforms, before securing a deal with ntl to provide massively multi-player games for digital cable television. In March 2000, nGame received first round investment of £1.5 million from Oxygen Capital Partners and others. This enabled the company to expand from six people to its present level of thirty, and to establish an office in Redwood City, California as well as its Cambridge head office. Over the following twelve months, nGame has developed nearly twenty titles for mobile phone, Web, and digital TV, and has established commercial and technical relationships with most of the key players in the industry. nGame titles are now distributed throughout the world, with over 500,000 registered players. nGame was also nominated for a BAFTA Interactive award for its massively multi-player medieval trading game, Merchant Princes. |
