The SCORE appears on the upper left corner of the screen.
The GEM DISPLAY appears on the upper center portion of the screen.
The TIME DISPLAY appears on the upper right corner of the screen.
The SHIELD DISPLAY appears on the bottom left corner of the screen.
The WEAPONS DISPLAY appears on the bottom right corner of the screen, (this is blank at the beginning of the game.) At the beginning of the game you are firing STANDARD AMMO, (unlimited supply.)
The GREEN LINES on the SHIELD DISPLAY which surround the silhouette of your Assault Rig reflect the current strength of your shields. When you are hit by enemy weapons fire the GREEN LINES on the SHIELD DISPLAY will change from green to yellow to red and finally to black If you take a hit in an area where the SHIELD DISPLAY is black, you will perish. Shoot a BLUE HOVERING CUBE to uncover power up items. Drive through power up items or GEMS to collect them. Once you have collected a power up item, press the L1 or R2 BUTTONS to scroll through and activate the desired weapon, (the activated weapon and amount of ammunition remaining for the weapon will appear on the WEAPONS DISPLAY.)
Weapons that you may collect during the game are..
01.) BOUNCE AMMO (rebounds off of hard surfaces allowing you to shoot around corners),
02.) SHATTER SHELLS (after the shell has been fired press the X BUTTON and you will cause the shell to shatter in fragments),
03.) HEAT SEEKING MISSILES (automatically lock onto nearest enemy),
04.) LASER CANNON (good for long distance skirmishes),
05.) MINI GUN (rapid fire),
06.) FLY BY WIRE MISSILE (when you fire this missile your viewpoint becomes that of the missile allowing you to use the directional pad to steer the missile),
07.) DROP AND FORGET MINES (land mines),
08.) SHIELD DECK (your Rig becomes invulnerable for a brief period of time),
09.) WARP DECK (allows you to warp to a different location within the ARENA, PUSH BLOCK DECK (your Rig will have an invisible push block surrounding it),
10.) AUTO TURRET (the gun turret on the Rig will automatically turn in the direction of the nearest enemy)
11.) SENTRY GUN PODS (once dropped, the gun pods will activate and fire at any object which comes within range, including you.)
Collect an ARMOUR RESTORE ICON to replenish the SHIELD DISPLAY. If your Rig flips over on its back press the TRIANGLE BUTTON to flip it back onto its belly. Once you have collected all of the GEMS in an ARENA and are finished exploring the area, proceed to the EXIT to leave the ARENA.
In the 1 PLAYER GAME your objective is to collect all of the GEMS in each arena, (the number of GEMS you must collect appears on the right side of the GEM DISPLAY.).
In RIG RUMBLE, (2 PLAYER GAME), your objective is to destroy your opponent's Rig. In GEM WARZ, (2 PLAYER GAME), your objective is to collect all of the GEMS in an arena and reach the exit before your opponent or before the time allotted in which to clear the stage elapses.
If the TIME allotted to clear the ARENA elapses, or you perish as a result of excessive damage to your Rig, the game is over.
HINTS
Lay down a blanket of fire when going around corners,
( often you will take out an enemy who is laying in wait around the corner. )
Do not hesitate to use power up weapons,
( you cannot take them with you to the next level. )
Be careful when shooting BLUE SPHERES,
( if you shoot the power up item after destroying the sphere you will destroy the item. )
