Editorial Review
With a fighting mode, four mini-games, and a stand-alone role-playing game (RPG), Ehrgeiz is essentially six games for the price of one. First, duke it out as one of 10 playable characters (3 of which are from the popular RPG Final Fantasy VII) in hand-to-hand and weapons-based combat. There are 11 different fighting environments to tackle, including a moving train and a hovering airship. Ehrgeiz scores points for diversity. The arsenal of warriors is comprised of various ages, nationalities, and sexes--all of whom are eager to win the ultimate fighting championship. The prize is a mysterious weapon (the strangely dubbed Ehrgeiz). There are a gazillion moves to memorize, and the fluid movement and fantastic secret weapons provide great eye candy.
In addition to fighting, players will also encounter mini-games, such as the foot race "Battle Beach" and strategy game "Battle Panel" (think Othello). This game also contains several elements that will be instantly familiar to RPG fans. Ehrgeiz may not satisfy gamers who want a dedicated RPG or fighting game, but it does offer a diverse range of gameplay for the casual gamer with a limited attention span. --Carrie Bell
Pros:
Fighter movement animation is impressive
Final Fantasy connection will appeal to RPG fans
Diverse gameplay
Cons:
Numerous special moves impose a steep learning curve, and demand a good memory

I rented this game and it is so cool.it has a whole lota characters from other videogames.I rented this game only because i saw cloud from ff7 on it ^-^ It has a rpg and mini games and fighting modes. The fighting thing is so good.i used the battle stages to cheat.since i could move in the back and foreground, i used to run around the opponent then kick them and run! but the rpg is boring. it gets nowhere fast. but over all it is still a good game |

I'm a huge fan of the twitch fighting game, it's why I bought a console, as PC based twich games don't cut it.
Well, I've pretty much whomped on every PSX fighter until Ehrgeiz. This is the most challenging fighting game ever, period. With dozens, perhaps hundreds of moves (I haven't discovered them all yet) per fighter, you're bound to play this puppy again and again.
Unlike other games wherein a super attack (fireballs, ice, etc) can pretty much end the game, EhrGeiz allows for blocking. And unlike any other fighter I've seen, you MUST learn to block. If you don't, you will die quickly. You can see who knows the game and who doesn't by how well someone blocks. An excellent twist is "Interrupted" attacks. If you go full bore at an enemy, and he blocks, he can also trap you , thus "interrupting" you. What's that mean ? It means he will pound the tar out of you as he retailiates.
As a final word, it's nice to see balanced female characters that aren't stupid like Chun Li was in street fighter. The female characters are just as hardcore as the male, with excellent attack patterns.

i heard of this game about 3 months before it was released, but never got the chance to play it til this year.the game itself is addictive and has enough of a roster of fighters to satisfy most people.and there are tons of moves, but in one day i already mastered cloud, zack, sephiroth,jo and godhand.but it isn't really easy.i still can't figure out how to do that grenade thing (dont know the name) where he throws them in a box-corner's formation around him.i can beat alot of my friends who have been playing it for like 2 years just by using moonsaults and then throwing the opponent.well,if you ever get a chance to get this game ...,buy it.it's supremly awesome. |

I don't own this game, but I can tell by what people have said and by the pictures, that this game can't go unnoticed. I know people have sound it's easy, but it will be interesting, especially if it includes powerful people from Final Fantasy VII.
I know this game won't screw up your hopes for good games, so you should try it sometime in you life time. If you don't, and you like it, you won't be able to experience a very great game. |
